Taylor Chosen ABL's Best Newcomer Wednesday, September 1st , 1976 Novice? Newcomer? Rookie? Yeah, he's all that -- but he's a player. Layton Taylor of the Boston Terriers certainly showed that this month with a fine 1-0 won-lost record and impressive 0.96 ERA. For his superb performance Taylor was named the American Baseball League Rookie of the Month. In August he started 0 games, tossed 18.2 innings, gave up 18 base hits, struck out 15 and walked 8.
