No Playoff Berth Coming for St. Louis Thursday, September 16th , 1976 The St. Louis Explorers have a new opponent: mathematics. The Explorers still have games to play in their disappointing 1976 campaign, but the numbers say they won't mean much -- the Explorers were today mathematically eliminated from qualifying for the postseason. The Explorers have made the playoffs 18 times in their 95 years as a Major League Baseball franchise. This playoff miss is the club's 2nd in a row, with their last postseason appearance coming in 1974. In the last 10 seasons, the Explorers have made the playoffs 3 times.
