Washington Reliever Hurt Sunday, July 3rd , 1977 Steve Vercher of the Washington Eagles was injured in today's game against New York and had to be helped off the field by the trainers. The initial diagnosis is a torn tendon in his elbow, and he is expected to be out for up to 9 months. It happened while Vercher was throwing a pitch. "It hurt a lot, to be honest. I just hope it heals soon and I can get back on the field." This season, Vercher has earned 1 saves, tossed 26 innings, made 21 relief appearances, fanned 17 hitters and posted an ERA of 3.81. Teams are hitting .303 against him. |
