Trent Superb Against Cincinnati
Saturday, September 4th , 1965
The Cincinnati Packers had no answer today for St. Louis Explorers pitcher Jimmy Trent. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 9-0. Cincinnati managed only 5 hits off Trent, who had 7 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Trent got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Explorers fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
For the season, Trent has a record of 15 wins and 8 losses in 28 appearances. He has an ERA of 2.77 and has fanned 146 batters in 201.1 innings.
