Gonzalez Baffles Kansas City Batters
Friday, June 29th , 1973
The Kansas City Bulls manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the St. Louis Explorers. The Bulls were overpowered by St. Louis starter Jorge Gonzalez, who hurled his club to victory, 8-0.

"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," DD Martin said.

Over 9 innings, Gonzalez blanked Kansas City on 5 hits with no walks and 6 strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Gonzalez said.

"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

This year, Gonzalez has worked 106.1 innings with 52 strikeouts en route to a 8-6 record and 2.96 ERA.
