Bulls Blank Captains, Hartman Winner
Monday, September 11th , 1967
In an impressive outing, Mel Hartman blanked the San Diego Captains 8-0.
"I'm getting a lot more downward movement instead of side to side. That side-to-side stuff can get hit a long way," said Hartman, who is throwing with more of an overhand motion.
"It's not rocket science. It was just a little adjustment, but that's all it took."
The Kansas City hurler held San Diego scoreless, allowed 3 hits, chalked up 7 strikeouts and yielded no walks.
This season Hartman has crafted a 15-6 mark with a 2.02 ERA in 200.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .212 against him and he has 158 strikeouts.
