Super Swinger -- Lockhart Slams 5 Hits Monday, September 12th , 1977 Houston first baseman Mike Lockhart could do no wrong in his team's 10-7 win over the Hawks, as he collected 5 hits. "Things were in his favor in every one of his at-bats," Hawks skipper Mike Flaherty said to the press corps after the game. "He got hitters' counts." Lockhart agreed, saying that getting ahead early in the counts was "the key" to his game. "Once you get ahead, it makes it a lot easier because you get a better pitch to hit," he said. "You know the pitcher has to come in with it. And you're ready." Mike Lockhart singled in the 1st, hit a two-run triple in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Angel Villatoro in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th. This year, Lockhart is hitting at a .283 pace with 19 home runs and 67 RBIs. He has played in 147 games and scored 104 times. View Boxscore View Game Log Watch Highlights |
