Montreal 3B Takes Triple Crown Monday, September 26th , 1977 To hit for a high average makes one a coveted ballplayer. To hit for power catches everyone's attention, too. But to do both -- and to do it better than anyone else -- that puts a player in a special class. Ed Hudson now belongs to that class. The 27-year-old Montreal third baseman has won the Triple Crown, the 33rd player in history to do it. He topped the American Baseball League in batting average (.349), home runs (48), and runs batted in (116). His manager said, "Ed is not only a special ballplayer, he's a special person. He handled all the media attention with class this year and never let it affect his play or the ballclub. I am really proud of him. It couldn't have happened to a better person." |
