6-for-7 Day for Cooper
Monday, September 15th , 1975
After a 6-hit effort to lead Brooklyn's 7-5 victory over the New York Knickerbockers, center fielder Jackie Cooper told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Major League Baseball-level is really something special."
The 25-year-old player earned his accolades at Knickerbocker Stadium with a spectacular 6-for-7 game against the Knickerbockers.
"His swing is getting there," said Bluebirds skipper John Meeker, who spoke glowingly of Cooper after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Jackie did that to perfection."
Jackie Cooper singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, struck out in the 8th, hit an RBI single in the 10th, hit a solo-shot off Dave Torre in the 12th and tripled in the 14th.
Cooper on the season is batting .374 with 17 home runs. His totals include 77 RBIs and 108 runs scored. He has played in 147 games.
