San Diego Out of Playoff Race
Sunday, September 28th , 1975
That they came exceptionally close to qualifying for the playoffs will likely provide little solace for fans of the San Diego Captains -- the team was mathematically eliminated from postseason contention today.
"I don't expect the fans to be happy with us," said Captains starting pitcher Ray Heath. "We're not happy with ourselves."
The Captains had a streak of 5 straight playoff appearances before this year. In the 10 years they have been a Major League Baseball franchise, they have made the playoffs 5 times. San Diego last won the World Series in 1971.
