Premier Rookie Picked By NBL Monday, October 25th , 1976 In his first year in the league, Mike Cooper paid huge dividends on his club's financial investment. He captured the 1976 National Baseball League Rookie of the Year Award for his spectacular season. The Washington rookie phenom started 35 games, tossed 197.2 innings and chalked up a 7-15 record. Cooper struck out 128 batters, walked 72 and held opponents to a .250 batting average while compiling a 3.23 ERA. Manuel Andrade of the Denver Burros finished second in voting, while Alex Martinez of the Denver Burros finished third. |
