Pinckney Stretches Hit String to 20 Thursday, July 4th, 1895 Freeman Pinckney, third baseman for the Detroit Wolverines, ran his consecutive-game hitting streak to 20 games with 1 hit in his club's 9-5 victory today over the Pittsburgh Weavers at Dormont Park today. "Not the outcome we wanted," Pittsburgh manager said. "There's never a good time to lose, and it's never fun to be on the wrong end of somebody else's accomplishment." Freeman Pinckney grounded out in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, struck out in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th. Pinckney is hitting .356 this year with no home runs, 51 RBIs and 43 runs scored. He has 108 hits in 303 at-bats, 21 walks and a .398 on-base percentage. Pinckney has played in 71 games. |
