Industrials Advance to League Championship Series
Saturday, October 5th , 1974
Many baseball pundits expected a close series in the National Baseball League Divisional Round. It turned out quite a bit different.
The Pittsburgh Industrials swept aside the Philadelphia Quakers to advance to the League Championship Series, winning the final game by a 5-3 score at Quakers Stadium.
The series MVP was third baseman Keith MacPherson, who hit .417 with a .500 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 2 RBI and scored 3 runs.
"We expected this series to go right down to the wire, so to sweep is a bit of a surprise," he said. "But we'll take it."
The Pittsburgh Industrials don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the San Diego Captains - St. Louis Explorers series. San Diego leads the series 3 games to 1. The League Championship Series schedule will be announced after the Divisional Round finishes.
