Ray McGuire Lost for Season
Thursday, August 5th, 1954
The St. Louis Explorers were dealt a severe blow when Ray McGuire was hurt throwing a pitch recently in a game against the Buffalo Beavers. After the game, the team trainer reported McGuire might have to spend a lengthy time on the injured list. Today doctors confirmed it, ruling the 27-year-old closer out for the rest of the season with a torn back muscle. They indicated it would take McGuire at least 4 months to heal.

This season McGuire has notched 5 saves. In 37 relief appearances, he has 43 strikeouts in 49.2 innings with a 2.72 ERA. His season won-lost mark is 3-4.
