Houston Wins Game 5 in Extras; On Verge of LCS
The Houston Drillers needed some late heroics to do it, but ultimately emerged one game away from the League Championship Series. The Drillers needed 12 innings before taking the 9-8 win against the San Francisco Seagulls in a walk-off at Sam Houston Field. Houston right fielder Jackie Frost was 4 for 6 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. The win gives the Drillers a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-7 Divisional Round.

The decisive blow was delivered by Mike Wells in the bottom of the 12th when he hit a solo home run off 28-year old right-handed pitcher Dave Maughan to win the game for Houston. The home crowd went nuts.

Seagulls manager Al Borie did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the World Series."

The next game is set to be played for Tuesday, October 2nd , 1973 at Mission Field in San Francisco.
