Emeralds Bounce Hawks, 3-1
|
Seattle Emeralds starter Hector Contreras turned in a top-notch performance against the Chicago Hawks at Hyde Park Stadium. The result was a win for the Emeralds, 3-1. Contreras went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. His record improves to 3-7. Seattle, at 35-48, occupies 5th place in the American Baseball League Western Division.
Steve Wells, the 22-year old third baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Wells contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the third inning to put Seattle up, 2-1.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Wells told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
