Bluebirds Clip Quakers, 3-2
|
Starting pitcher Jorge Sandoval was a major factor in the 3-2 Brooklyn Bluebirds triumph over the Philadelphia Quakers. Sandoval yielded 2 runs over 8.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. His record improves to 7-7. Bob Hill, credited with the save, is now 9 for 11 in save opportunities.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, Greg Landrum was at the plate when Brooklyn scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Bluebirds to go in front, 3-2.
"When I throw strikes I'm good, if I don't I'm not very good," said Sandoval. "So I just have to throw strikes."
By defeating Philadelphia, the 5th-place Bluebirds improved to 41-45.
