The Houston Drillers cruised to a win over the Chicago Hawks, 13-2, at Sam Houston Field. Randy Barnes, who finished 5th in the NBL in doubles with 41 in 1970, led the way, going 3-for-4 for Houston. Gary Dale was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 1 save opportunities. The Drillers improved their record to 39-53 by beating Chicago.

With Houston leading 9-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Barnes came up to bat against Chicago pitcher Denny Chambers. Barnes hit a fastball to right for a 3-run home run. His 4th home run of the season put the Drillers on top, 12-0.

"Nothing to write home about," Chicago manager Mike Flaherty said, when asked afterward about the game.
