Captains Drop Bluebirds, 4-2
|
San Diego turned a good performance from starting pitcher Ray Heath into a 4-2 triumph over the Brooklyn Bluebirds at Flatbush Park. Heath, now 12-4, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. San Diego now has a record of 53-40 with the win.
San Diego used a well-timed hit by Gary Jordan to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the second inning to put the Captains ahead, 3-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
Said losing manager John Meeker: "The at-bats, obviously, needed to be better."
