The rain did not keep Pittsburgh and Washington from finishing their game.

Jeff Lawler did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Washington Eagles from being beaten, 8-6, to the Pittsburgh Industrials at Allegheny Field. Lawler was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Mike Gresley, the winner, goes to 7-5. He allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts over 6.1 innings.

The Industrials got a big hit from catcher Gary Tavares. In the bottom of the sixth, Tavares smacked a 3-run home run off Washington pitcher Billy Gray. It was his 3rd home run of the season. Suddenly, the Industrials were ahead, 4-3.

"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Tavares, "but we got it done."

The first-place Industrials have won 4 consecutive games.
