Explorers Squeeze By Chicago, 4-3
|
A good performance from first baseman Tom Adams helped the St. Louis Explorers defeat the Chicago Traders, 4-3. Adams went 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Explorers. Bernie Tate got the save, his 14th in 16 chances. The 4th-place Traders have dropped 4 straight games.
Adams had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 1-0 slider from Randy Birch, he banged a solo home run to center, giving the Explorers a 4-3 lead. It was the 11th home run of the year for Adams.
Adams attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
