The San Francisco Seagulls could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Tim Stambaugh into a win. Instead, the Houston Drillers prevailed, 6-4. Stambaugh threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Houston reliever Bill Switzer picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Dave Maughan absorbed the loss. With the win, Houston climbs to 4-6.

Houston used a timely hit from Chuck Walton to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Drillers ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.

"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Walton.
