Philadelphia Loses, 3-1, in 11
|
Washington pitcher Tom McAteer did his part in helping his team beat the Philadelphia Quakers, 3-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Don McCoy, credited with the save, is now 1 for 3 in save opportunities. Washington currently is in 6th place in the National Baseball League Eastern Division at 49-56.
Washington used the timely hitting of Irv Olson to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Eagles on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Jeff Green.
