Wolverines Prevail, 4-2, Over Toronto
|
The Detroit Wolverines knocked off the Toronto Hurons, 4-2, at Wolverine Field. Jerry Plumley was a big reason Detroit won. The center fielder was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. Scott Litwak was the winner. Over 5.1 innings, he yielded 2 runs on 8 hits, with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Paul Carter notched his 1st save in 2 chances.
Pete Morrison had a big 2-run triple for the Wolverines in the bottom of the third inning. With Detroit leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a changeup from Joe Scott, who finished 3rd in the ABL in innings pitched with 250.2 in 1966, and swatted a triple to left. It was his 4th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Wolverines ahead, 3-0.
"We'll just keep our nose to the grindstone," Plumley told the Detroit News.
Detroit now sits at 58-48, while Toronto falls to 49-60.
