Starting pitcher Ray McKenzie fulfilled his part of the bargain, helping the San Diego Captains stymie the Denver Burros, 5-2. McKenzie picked up the win for San Diego, going 6 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 5-10. Ed Prater got the save, his 3rd in 10 chances.

San Diego third baseman Darrell Conley contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 142nd hit of the season and put the Captains ahead, 4-2.

"All my pitches were working," said McKenzie. "They were all synchronized together in attacking the zone."
