San Francisco Tops Chicago, 2-1
|
The San Francisco Seagulls did just enough to sneak past the Chicago Hawks, 2-1, at Hyde Park Stadium. San Francisco pitcher Tim Stambaugh, in particular, had a standout performance. The Seagulls, at 58-50, sit in 4th place in the American Baseball League Western Division.
San Francisco relied on the bat of Scott Wagner to get the win. The third baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Seagulls ahead, 2-1. For the game, Wagner had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Chicago skipper Mike Flaherty, "and it cost us."
