The St. Louis Explorers got a marvelous performance from pitcher Randy Birch. The right-hander kept the Milwaukee offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 4-2 St. Louis victory at Corps of Discovery Stadium. Alex Alonso collected save number 19. The Explorers improved their record to 56-56 with the win over Milwaukee.

Milwaukee had a runner on 1st in the top of the eighth. With one out, Dennis Adams stood at the plate, hoping to find a gap. Instead, he lined out. The score remained 3-1, St. Louis. The Dairymen never could mount a comeback.
