Quakers Nip Packers, 4-3
|
The Philadelphia Quakers did just enough to sneak past the Cincinnati Packers, 4-3, at Roman Arena. Philadelphia pitcher Mel Hartman, in particular, had a standout performance. Darrell Klug notched his 15th save in 18 chances. The win puts Philadelphia at 64-55 this season.
Joe Voss, who finished 4th in the NBL in OPS with .927 in 1969, had a direct impact on the outcome. Voss contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Philadelphia up, 4-3.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Voss, "one at-bat at a time."
