The New York Empires wasted an impressive 7-inning effort from starter Nate Frampton, falling, 2-1, to the Detroit Wolverines at Queens Field. Fred Harrison, credited with the win in relief, is now 16-3. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The Wolverines improved their record to 58-60 by beating New York.

Jerry Plumley came through with a big-time hit for Detroit. The right fielder smacked a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"Our pitching was the difference tonight," Plumley said.
