Empires Roll Past Habitants, 7-1
The home crowd had a good time watching the Montreal Habitants and New York Empires get after it.

The New York Empires got a stellar performance from pitcher Jon Pierce, who handcuffed the Montreal offense en route to a win, 7-1, at Queens Field. Pierce, who is on pace to win 21 games this season, went the distance for New York. He gave up 1 run on 8 hits.

With New York leading 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Pierce hit a fastball from Rich Barron for a 2-run double. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Empires ahead, 4-0.

"Jon was hitting his spots and everything had life," said New York manager Dan Whiting.

The triumph puts New York at 70-61 for the season.
