Drillers Win Thriller, 2-1
Bill Switzer never let Chicago get something going. The Houston left-hander commanded his cutter in pitching the Drillers to a 2-1 win. Houston reliever Jeff Ferguson got the win, raising his record to 9-3. Gary Ingram was tagged with the loss. The win gives Houston a season record of 79-54.

The decisive blow was delivered by Bob Rawlins in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a solo home run off 28-year old right-handed pitcher Gary Ingram to win the game for Houston. The home crowd went nuts.

"We did just enough to win," Switzer said.
