Wolverines Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Terriers, 2-1
|
The home squad pulled out a thrilling walk-off win.
Alex Alonso, who finished 5th in the ABL in wins with 16 in 1972, pitched well, but the Boston Terriers still fell short, losing, 2-1, to the Detroit Wolverines at Wolverine Field. Detroit reliever Paul Carter was the winner. His record is now 2-0. The losing pitcher was Alex Alonso.
Booker Lee was the walk-off hero for Detroit. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Wolverines left fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"I'm glad I could get it done when the game was in the balance," Lee said in his postgame press conference.
With the win, Detroit has a record of 71-61. Boston falls to 61-70.
