The Houston Drillers did just enough to sneak past the Seattle Emeralds, 3-2, at Puget Field. Houston pitcher Oscar Contreras, in particular, had a standout performance. Contreras picked up the win for Houston, going 6.1 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. The Drillers, now 10-4, have been on fire in the early going.
Houston relied on the hitting of John Hart to pick up the win. The catcher clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Drillers on top, 3-0. For the game, Hart had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"You can't take yourself too seriously," Contreras told the Houston Daily News. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."
