Empires Pull Out Late-Game Win, 5-4
|
Queens Field played host to some dramatic action.
The New York Empires picked up a win at Queens Field, knocking off the Toronto Hurons, 5-4. Starting pitcher Nate Frampton played a key role in the triumph. Jack Pratt, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-0. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 1.1 innings.
The decisive blow was delivered by Rick Lintner in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a solo home run off two-time All-Star Randy Robins to win the game for New York. The home crowd went nuts.
"There's a lot of passion in our clubhouse," said Lintner. "When we put it together we're a great ball club."
The Hurons fall to 5-9 and continue their lackluster start to the 1976 season.
