Montreal wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Thornton Shadwell, falling to the New York Empires, 5-2. Shadwell threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. The loss puts Montreal at 8-6.
New York won the game in the bottom of the 11th inning. With one out and Steve Locke on the mound for Montreal, left fielder Tim Foster hit a dramatic 3-run home run, bringing Empires fans to their feet.
"Great to get the crowd on its feet," Foster said.
