Jerry Zaruba, who finished 5th in the NBL in strikeouts with 164 in 1972, had a strong outing for the Houston Drillers against the San Francisco Seagulls at Mission Field. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 4-1 win. Zaruba yielded 1 run over 6.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 13-11. Tom McAteer nailed down his 24th save.

Randy Barnes, who finished 5th in the NBL in hits with 173 in 1969, had a direct impact on the outcome. Barnes contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Houston up, 2-1.
