San Francisco Topples Seattle, 4-2
|
The San Francisco Seagulls picked up a win at Mission Field, knocking off the Seattle Emeralds, 4-2. Starting pitcher Ray Heath played a key role in the triumph. Archie Sereni notched his 14th save of the season. The Seagulls go to 84-64, putting them second in the American Baseball League Western Division.
The Seagulls got a big at-bat from left fielder Rick Stafne. For the game, Stafne went 1-3 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the second, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave San Francisco a 2-1 lead.
"Really good pitchers have that ability to raise their game when they need to," said San Francisco manager Al Borie.
