Eagles Torpedoed by Espinoza in 6-0 Loss to New York
|
In a remarkable performance, New York Knickerbockers starter Jose Espinoza beat the Washington Eagles 6-0 in an impressive 5-hit shutout.
"My arm felt good, mechanics were good and my stuff was working," he said later. "It doesn't get any better than this."
The Knickerbockers hurler finished with 11 strikeouts and 1 walk. He showed pinpoint control and a sharp fastball.
"It was a rough one for my guys," Washington manager J P Scott said following the game. "We weren't at our best and their guy was."
On the season Espinoza has compiled a 8-7 mark with a 4.10 ERA in 17 starts. In pitching 131.2 innings he has 84 strikeouts and 39 walks while limiting the opposition to a .254 batting average.
