Hawks Rebuff Drillers, 2-1
|
In a tight game between the Chicago Hawks and the Houston Drillers, pitcher Kevin Edwards was terrific on the mound. The Chicago left-hander helped his team to the 2-1 win. Edwards, now 14-8, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The win elevated the Hawks to 83-68.
Bobby Raley dealt the Drillers a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with runners on 1st and 2nd and Chicago leading 1-0, Raley, who led the ABL in wins above replacement with 6.5 in 1964, hit a 1-1 sinker for a run-scoring single.
"I still think this team can play even better," Raley told the Chicago Herald.
