Atlanta Generals starter Renie White pitched well against the New York Empires at Atlantic Station Field, leading his team to a win, 6-4. Ron Winder earned his 11th save in 13 chances. By defeating New York, the 5th-place Generals improved to 73-84.

Atlanta took a 6-3 lead on Matt Legrow's 15th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Legrow hit in the bottom of the seventh, left New York pitcher Nate Frampton visibly frustrated.

"Renie was exceptional and he pitched with a purpose," said Atlanta manager Philipe Yazzie.
