Generals Win at New York, 3-1
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Atlanta Generals and the New York Empires, pitcher Ron Cwiklinski was the difference between victory and defeat. The Atlanta right-hander earned kudos in the 3-1 Generals win. Cwiklinski yielded 1 run over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. His record improves to 1-0. Renie White collected his 2nd save.
Cwiklinski had a key at-bat in the top of the second to put Atlanta in front, 3-0. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, he hit a 2-run single off New York pitcher Jack Neenan.
"When you are able to locate the ball, good things are going to happen," said Cwiklinski.
Atlanta, now 7-11, is off to a slow start.
