San Diego Captains starter Ray Heath pitched a strong game against the Chicago Traders at Union Field, leading the Captains to victory, 4-2. Heath, who finished 5th in the NBL in wins with 17 last year, went the distance for San Diego. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. San Diego improves to 10-8 as they look to defend their championship.
Ernie Wilkins, who finished 2nd in the NBL in triples with 12 last year, had a direct impact on the outcome. Wilkins contributed a 2-run triple in the top of the fifth inning to put San Diego up, 2-0.
"I felt good up there," said Wilkins. "I saw the ball well."
