San Diego Pins 6-5 Loss on Denver
|
Despite a great performance by Denver starter John Gannon, the San Diego Captains defeated the Burros by the score of 6-5 at Gates Crescent Park. Gannon threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball, but he couldn't prevent the Captains from moving one game closer to the World Series. San Diego now leads the League Championship Series 2-0.
San Diego used the timely hitting of Gary Austin to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Captains on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We found a way to get it done," Austin said.
Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at San Diego Sporting Complex in San Diego.
