Empires Clip Hawks, 2-1
|
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the New York Empires and the Chicago Hawks. New York won it, 2-1. New York starter Jimmy Bell was in command. Jim Olson earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record is now 2-0. New York now has a record of 19-14 with the win.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Irv Olson came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Chicago pitcher Chuck Hentschel, he hit a 2-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 2-1.
Olson attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
