Hawks Earn 4-3 Win Against Drillers
|
The Chicago Hawks defeated the Houston Drillers, 4-3, in American Baseball League action at Hyde Park Stadium. Chicago pitcher Bruce Elsner had a standout performance. The winner in relief was Al Charrette. He is now 3-2. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The Drillers, at 20-16, have lost 5 in a row.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. That's when right fielder Stan Patterson, who finished 5th in the NBL in OPS with .938 in 1959, hit a 2-run single. The Hawks went on to win.
"This place was jumping at the end," Elsner said.
