Empires Win, 5-3, at Montreal
|
The New York Empires weathered a fine game by Montreal left fielder Billy Groh to upend the Habitants, 5-3, at LaSalle Stadium. Groh was 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Jim Olson sewed up the save, his 2nd. With the win, the Empires have a record of 22-17.
Irv Olson, the five-time All-Star , had a direct impact on the outcome. Olson contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put New York up, 4-1.
"You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good day," Olson told the New York Daily.
