The Washington Eagles defeated the St. Louis Explorers, 5-2, in National Baseball League action at Monument Field. Washington pitcher Antonio Santana had a standout performance. In 7 innings, Santana surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Charlie Tovar locked down his 7th save.
Buck Townsend's at-bat in the bottom of the fourth inning was a big one for Washington. Coming to bat with two out, the bases loaded and Washington trailing 2-0, the center fielder reached on an error by the 2B, driving in 1 run.
"We did a lot of things right," said Townsend.
The win makes Washington 24-26.
