Crowell Helps Bobcats Defeat Packers, 9-3
|
Led by Tom Crowell, the Cleveland Bobcats defeated the Cincinnati Packers, 9-3. Crowell was 4-4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for the Bobcats. Myron Baird, the winning pitcher, improved to 6-5. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 9 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 1. The 4th-place Bobcats go to 33-30.
Steve Garcia had a big 2-run home run for the Bobcats in the top of the first inning. With Cleveland leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Fernando Lopez, who finished 2nd in the NBL in wins with 18 in 1969, and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Bobcats on top, 4-0.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Garcia told the Cleveland Daily. "It's as simple as that."
