Drillers Score Late, Topple Hawks, 7-4
|
The Chicago Hawks got a superb performance from pitcher Johnny Russell, but the Houston Drillers still won the game, 7-4. Russell threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Larry Bilski claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3 innings. His record stands at 4-4. The Drillers now own a record of 31-33.
Houston needed the clutch hitting of Mike Wells to seal the deal. The first baseman swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Drillers on top, 5-4. For the game, Wells had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"When I'm in the lineup, I always feel like we're going to win the game," said Wells.
