Pobladores Make Empires 2-1 Losers
Phil Lester, who led the ABL in innings pitched with 286.2 in 1971, was terrific for the Los Angeles Pobladores in his team's 2-1 triumph over the New York Empires. His performance earned Lester rave reviews. Larry Seger earned the save, his 8th, for the Pobladores. The triumph makes Los Angeles 23-43.

With two out in the top of the fifth, Paul McCarthy put Los Angeles in front, 2-1, with a run-scoring single. The Pobladores went on to win the ballgame.

"If you beat me, you beat me, if not, good things will happen," said Lester.
