Bulls Shut Out Traders, 3-0
|
In a low-scoring contest, Kansas City pitcher Mel Hartman was marvelous in his team's 3-0 win. Hartman, now 9-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing no runs. Pedro Nunez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 4 of 5 save opportunities.
Kansas City first baseman Bob Anderson contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a changeup into center field for a 2-run single. It was his 23rd hit of the season and put the Bulls ahead, 2-0.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Chicago skipper Jeff Placeholder, "and it cost us."
With the win, Kansas City raised its record to 34-32.
