Explorers Earn 5-3 Win Against Bulls
Kansas City got a terrific performance from pitcher Mel Hartman, but it wasn't enough to beat the St. Louis Explorers. St. Louis won the Independence Field contest, 5-3. Hartman threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Dave Golub, 4-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. With the win, the Explorers have a record of 42-31.

St. Louis used the timely hitting of Carl Wright to seize the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Explorers on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"We didn't go down without a fight," said Kansas City manager DD Martin.
