Quakers Drop Packers, 5-1
|
Soggy conditions did not keep Philadelphia and Cincinnati from playing their scheduled game.
Mel Hartman, who finished 3rd in the NBL in strikeouts with 214 in 1966, was terrific for the Philadelphia Quakers in his team's 5-1 triumph over the Cincinnati Packers. His performance earned Hartman rave reviews. Darrell Klug was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 14 of 19 save opportunities.
Hartman had a timely hit for Philadelphia in the top of the seventh. With Philadelphia trailing 1-0, he turned a 2-2 changeup into a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season, making it 2-1, Philadelphia.
Hartman attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
After today's action, Philadelphia sits at 39-32, while Cincinnati falls to 27-43.
