Kansas City Blanks Captains, Hartman Wins
Friday, May 26th , 1967
"Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage.
Well, good pitching also beats bad hitting.
Mel Hartman of the Kansas City Bulls proved the point at San Diego Sporting Complex today, holding the San Diego Captains to 3 hits in a complete game shutout victory.
"Hartman made us look real bad today," Captains manager Joe Mack said in a postgame interview. "He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking."
Hartman had 4 strikeouts and gave up no walks as the Bulls took the 8-0 win.
His record for the year is 5-1 in 9 starts and Hartman has a 1.78 ERA.
